When he was 20 years old drove the stagecoach from Rockford to Rochelle IL, carrying mail and some passengers, making the trip one way each day over what today is Hwy 51 (in 1960). A year after marriage, he went to work for the Chicago and Pacific Railroad. Later, for 9 years he rounded out his career with the CB & Q Railroad. In 1923, he retired from active service.

Enlisted in 1942 as a Air Force pilot. He flew 30 combat missions in the Pacific Theatre in a B-24 with the 27th Bomber Squadron. After his return from overseas, he married Helen in San Francisco, CA. After being stationed at different air bases, he was transferred to Anchorage for 2 years after his marriage, then to Tokyo for 16 months, before returning to the U.S. It appears that he may have retire from service at Larsen Air Base in Washington, as he was still piloting a C-124 at the time this was written by his sister Edith in 1960.

Dad was a barber in Ft. Sill, OK in 1943. It was his patriotic duty to the war effort since he was physically unable to join the army. We moved to California in 1944 where Dad carried ice for the Lynwood Ice Co., then he received his call to the ministry. He accepted his first church in 1953 at Ojai, CA, then his second at Saugus, CA in 1960, and third was Paso Robles, CA in 1971. We moved to San Luis Obispo, CA where he became the Senior adult minister at the San Luis Obispo church until he could do it no longer. He had Parkinson's disease.
